Gender Equality in Rights and Responsibilities in Society

By: Sarita Sok

Both men and women deserve the same right under the law. They have the same right to live. They can also get an education, go to work, get married, decide their future, and do everything they want as long as it’s legal. They can join every kind of social works, volunteer for charity or organization, and still receive the same credits and outcomes.

Women can also vote for their country. According to the surveys, there are more female voters than male. In 2012, there are 53% of all voters are female. This show that women play important roles in determining the outcomes of the presidential elections. And the women’s voices are very important to decide their country destination. So why do people still think that women are useless and weak? Why do people think women can never be equal to men?

Moreover, women are not only important voters. They also can stand as a candidate like men do. Women can also become leaders as men do. For instance, there are many women around the world are Prime Minister or Presidents like men too.

Men may never value women as people who are useful and priceless. But they actually need each other. However, in reality, women and men can do the same things if they wish too. The problem is the choice they make and the situation they are in.

One thing that everyone should remember is that equal does not mean the same. Woman fight for equality. It doesn’t mean that people have to do the same job at the same place at the same time for equality. In the other hand, it means that we are all human, we should have the right to do everything equally without sexist and discrimination.

Finally I still strongly believe that this motion should stand. Gender equality is definitely possible when men hurt to hurt women and women feel broken to hurt men.
