Education is very important in promoting gender equality due to several reasons.
First, education is the key to address gender-based inequalities that limit girls’ schooling opportunities. This will ensure that each individual has the same rights in getting education including rights to education, rights within education and rights through education. Everyone will get the same educational opportunities, experiences and outcomes and are treated equally despite their gender.
In addition, education gives everyone knowledge regarding sex and gender and how to address gender inequality. It can help remove gender bias and promote gender awareness. Through education, people have learnt more about the consequences of gender discrimination and find ways to solve them. Education has helped people understand the significance of gender equality promotion.
Moreover, giving equal education can empower women because an educated woman can do so much for their family, community and country. When women involve more in their society, they will be given more value and respect.
Furthermore, besides giving equality in getting education between men and women, education is also important to promote gender equality in the work field. Because both men and women are educated, they both have the same ability and opportunity to be hired. It is important to hire both male and female employees and ensure equal pay, and it will be an obvious gender equally promotion if both male and female workers are likely to be promoted based on their ability rather than gender.
In short, education promotes gender equality by ensuring equal schooling opportunities, raise gender awareness, empower women and promote gender equality in getting employed.
