In many societies, women face many challenges while trying to obtain higher education.
Initially, women do not get higher education due to financial issue. In some family, their income is limited which only enough to support their living expense or only enough to support the higher education of the sons.
Additionally, if higher education institutions are not nearby, travelling to university become a major obstacle for women. Going to a distant university is a threat to women’s personal security. It is very common to think that it is dangerous for women to travel far away. Although there is enough transportation, there are still possible incidents of sexual harassment or sexual abuse.
Furthermore, cultural diversity is problematic for women. In some culture, women cannot go to school, get higher education and be a leader in their community or society as a whole. They can only stay at home and take care of domestic works. The role of women in some society is shaped by their culture and tradition which impact their lives and the lives of women in the future generation.
In short, family financial issues, distant universities and cultural stereotype are major barriers to women in getting their higher education.
